TAKO Hike with Lewis & Clark

Take A Kid Outdoors (TAKO) will be hosting an early
morning Breakfast Hike with Lewis & Clark On Saturday
April 24th 9:00am til Noon. Ambitious hikers begin
at Echo Valley State Park where they meet Lewis &
Clark and hike to the Houg Educational Farm near Elgin,
Iowa where a free frontier breakfast will be served
around 10am. If you are not up to the hike, simply
show up at the Houg Farm and help prepare the frontier
breakfast. As part of earth day, we will be planting
a tree, cleaning up the trail and learning how Lewis
& Clark enjoyed discovering Northeast Iowa. The
new Amish Bakery in Clermont will have samples of
their baked goods and will have items for sale. The
event is FREE and OPEN to the public.
Participants should dress in layers and be prepared
for a range of weather conditions. Bring a hat, sunglasses,
sunscreen, insect repellant, drinking water, and any
other items you may need to be comfortable in the
outdoors. Bring your camera or binoculars for added
fun!
The Houg Educational Farm is easy to find. It located
at the intersection of Hazel and Hornet Road in Fayette
County. Simply take Highway 18 East from West Union
to Golden Road. Go East on Golden Road towards Elgin
and turn South onto Hazel Road and follow signs.
